Scholarship Funds

young manScholarship funds make education more attainable for motivated but often under-resourced Indian students.

Access to educational opportunities is more important than ever in Indian communities, where high school dropout rates among Indian youth remain high and tribal members face increasingly complex social and economic challenges.

ILTF believes that education is the most important step in the process of resolving many Indian land tenure issues. The more knowledge individual Indian people have about their tribe's land and their own rights and responsibilities as landowners, the closer we will be to ensuring that Indian people exercise full control over their lands and their futures.

Clyde Bellecourt Scholarship Fund

In 2005, ILTF worked in partnership with the American Indian Movement (AIM) Interpretive Center Inc. (formerly Heart of the Earth Inc.) to create a permanent scholarship fund for Minnesota Indian high school students who wish to pursue post-secondary education. Located in Minneapolis, the AIM Interpretive Center Inc.'s mission is to increase educational attainment among Indian youth while providing them with a culturally-based curriculum. Since the fund's creation, 20 scholarships and nearly $200,000 have been awarded. Your donation to the Clyde Bellecourt Scholarship Fund will support additional Indian students in Minnesota attend college.
